Nineteen of Medvedev's 21 championships have been earned on hardcourt

A comeback Daniil Medvedev secured his maiden championship for nearly 30 months with victory over opponent Moutet in the competition championship match.

Medvedev, a former world number one, has had a torrid period, managing just a single victory at the big events and undergoing a setback at the New York tournament.

The player's unpredictability on the ATP Tour - and difficulties with his serving in specific - led to him exiting of the elite rankings and eventually parting ways with former coach Cervara.

Now collaborating with Johansson and his other coach, Medvedev has steadily improved in the past month - climaxing in a tightly fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 win over challenger Moutet.

It is Medvedev's initial championship after the Italian tournament and first on a hardcourt after spring of 2023.

Success also indicates the Russian has secured twenty-one championships at twenty-one distinct tournaments.

"For the first time I have attended a tournament with my two daughters at once, so to get a trophy is really nice," stated tennis professional Medvedev.

"This title is in dedication of my younger daughter her name, because the maiden victory I achieved when my first daughter Alisa was delivered was for her."

The tennis star, the past champion, had been defeated in his past six championship matches, featuring in Halle in the past months.

His counter-punching approach and regular outbursts on the playing surface had led observers to question if his capacity to perform at the highest level was concluded.

Yet the 29-year-old has implemented adjustments in the last few weeks, striving to approach the net and compete positively, supported by an better serving game.

The champion came back from a deficit in the initial set against the tricky Frenchman, taking four of the last five points to take the lead.

Both players swapped service breaks in the second set before the Frenchman, bidding for his maiden tour title, took control to create a decider.

The opponent saved 4 initial break points in a competitive third set before the champion secured a break to 15 to serve for the match.

Fittingly, he clinched the win with a rally at the net, with the Frenchman failing to handle a volley after a lengthy match.
